Sawtooth Ultras and Plans

There are some exciting new races coming to the Methow this summer that we’re so excited about! Way back when, Rainshadow Running put on a race called Angel’s Staircase in north-central Washington’s sawtooth mountains (not to be confused with the also awesome Sawtooth range in Idaho). James chose August for the race since he spent July in Colorado for the beloved Hardrock 100, but after several canceled races due to fires, the race has been on hiatus for many years. Luckily for us, it’s back! Everlong Endurance took on the vision of the race and added a 50 mile option in 2020, but of course we all know what happened next. This year there’s a 50k race as well, giving two awesome options.

On the Sawtooth course. Cue the Sound of Music.

We love the mountainous courses and can’t wait for July, the perfect time for the race. If you’re looking for a mountainous race in a beautiful place, look no further. I’ll be doing the 50 miler, and Sam and friends will be at the first aid station (if you want to join that, let us know!).

To help you prepare for this stout course, we created a specific 12-week training plan with strength training and lots of vert so you can enjoy every second of your day in the mountains (or at least most of the day).

See you there!
