Wild Writing Small Group

Alison has been practicing Wild Writing since 2020 and is currently training with Laurie Wagner, the incredible Wild Writing teacher. She’s incredibly excited to share this personal, deep work with our community. What starts as a writing practice becomes so much more when work is shared in a safe, supportive environment with other writers.

Wild writing is a writing practice that helps you discover your voice, let go of your inner critic, and be more present in your life and the world around you.

The following structure ensures everyone knows what to expect and creates a supportive environment for everyone to write freely:

  • Over the course of each class we work with three poems to help us find doorways into our creative selves.

  • I’ll read a poem while you settle in and relax, allowing your mind to float as if being told a bedtime story, then offer a couple of jump off lines from the poem, and one additional prompt to choose from.

  • We write for 15 min, then take turns sharing our work. When it’s our turn to share, we simply read what we’ve written, without any preamble, knowing we’re all putting ourselves out there and it could be gibberish (though it usually is not). As listeners, we don’t judge, and don’t ever share anything about anyone’s work without permission after class. We thank each writer in turn, take a deep breath, and start another poem.

  • We don’t mention each other’s work, and if we want to comfort or relate to anyone’s writing, we ask permission and the writer is completely open to say yes or no.

Class size is limited to six and will meet at the Fly shop in Mazama for eight Wednesdays starting April 17 from 5:00pm-6:15pm.

Intro to Printmaking with Cal Waichler

Explore the beauty of printmaking with local artist Claire (Cal) Waichler. Through woodcut printmaking, painting, and collage, she explores themes of wilderness, climate change, and the complex ecological stories that occur underfoot, overhead, and out of sight. Her creative work is underpinned by time spent mountaineering, commercial fishing, and working as a researcher and educator in environmental fields. She makes artwork to revisit and intuitively express these far-flung experiences. Cal studied Environmental Science and printmaking at Colby College.

Workshop is limited to eight participants and includes supplies, focusing on mark making and beginning to advanced techniques in relief with linoleum.

March 18, April 15, and May 14. Come to one, or come to all! Use code SERIES for a discount for all three.
