I know it's just (barely) the beginning of winter, which I'm excited for, but I can't help but also look forward to those long, sunny, warm spring days. During spring break in college, my best girl friends and I would pile into one car and head south to the Utah desert. I fell in love with the area and later did a two- month backpacking field course to learn the natural history, environmental and land management issues, and geology of the Colorado Plateau. I told myself I'd return every spring for the rest of my life. Sadly, I've returned only once post-college, when I ran Zion 100 in 2013. I absolutely loved the race and rekindled my love for the red rocks and sand of that special place. After what seemed like a never-ending winter last year, I vowed to create a yearly tradition of leaving the Methow mud season in March for a trip south. I know Seattle can be a trying time in March as well, and as such, decided to create a running camp to soak in as much sun as possible, explore the amazing trails around Zion, and start the running season off with a solid chunk of running miles (did I mention sun?).
We are taking care of everything from lodging to food, to transportation, so once you board the plane to Vegas, you can leave the rest to us. We’ll pick everyone up at the airport, take you to our awesome base for the camp outside of Hurricane, UT, where we’ll proceed to run and eat to our hearts’ content. We have routes planned for each day with a shorter and longer option, and we’ll also work on technique for uphills, downhills, and technical terrain. Throw in some strength and hill workouts along with some discussions on nutrition and training, and you’ll have all the tools you need for a great season.
Four weeks out from the Zion Ultras (100m/100k/50k), it's also a perfect end to your training and a great way to familiarize yourself with the terrain and course. We've partnered with them to offer an awesome contest: like us on FB, like Ultra Adventures on FB, comment, and win a spot in both our camp, and the race.
Camp cost: $1200 and includes the following:
